Your cat’s next wet-food meal shouldn’t depend on you getting home at exactly the right time. Choose around the gap you need to cover: one later meal, several meal times, or powered cooling.

Research-led picks; not hands-on tested. Manufacturer details and UK listings checked on 1 October 2026.

Choose your wet-food feeder

More meal times: Cat Mate C500

Our pick for more than two later meals, or if you prefer a digital timer. Twin ice packs, one meal now and four timed meals later. Choose it if you’re happy to prepare frozen packs.

One or two delayed meals: Cat Mate C200

Our simpler pick for one or two later meals, including an early breakfast. Two lids, separate countdown timers and an ice pack; no app to set up.

Active cooling: PETLIBRO Polar

Our pick when you specifically want powered cooling instead of frozen packs. Three compartments; the linked model has a stainless-steel bowl. Needs mains power: backup batteries run feeding, not cooling.

Read the cooling and power limits first

Ice packs or active cooling: what are you buying?

An ice-pack feeder keeps loaded food cooler using packs you freeze and replace. An actively cooled feeder uses electricity to cool the food compartments. Both still need loading, washing and checks.

A timer’s maximum delay is not a food-safety guarantee. “48-hour timer” does not mean wet food stays suitable for 48 hours. Room temperature, the food and the feeder’s instructions matter. A powered cooler also needs to be judged by its actual cooling performance, rather than the word “refrigerated”.

What is worth paying extra for?

More compartments are useful when you need more meal times. Powered cooling is useful when you want to stop preparing frozen packs. Neither upgrade makes sense simply because it is a more elaborate feeder. For one later lunch, compare the C200 first; for several later meals, compare the C500. Check current prices through the links above before deciding whether the Polar’s different cooling system is worth the extra spend for your routine.

Cat Mate C500: our pick for several scheduled wet meals

Choose the C500 if your problem is serving more than one later meal. Its digital timer and rotating tray give you more scheduling room than a two-lid feeder, without adding Wi-Fi setup. For a cat that benefits from meals spread through the day, that is the useful upgrade.

The tray has five sections, but one is exposed at the start. You can therefore load a meal for now plus four later timed servings. Treat it as a meal schedule, not a promise of five days away.

Two ice packs sit beneath the tray. The instructions say to freeze them for at least six hours. That makes freezer space and pack preparation part of using this feeder; the digital timer does not remove that daily job.

For example, if you already serve breakfast yourself but want three smaller meals opened later, the C500 has room for that schedule. For just one or two later servings, the C200 can cover the job without the extra compartments.

Buy it if: you want several meal times and are happy to prepare ice packs. Choose differently if: you only need one later meal, or the main feature you want is powered cooling.

The linked model has a plastic feeding tray and uses three AA batteries. The lid and tray can be washed in a dishwasher; the base needs wiping rather than immersing. Check the listing’s selected version before ordering, because bowl materials and bundles can differ.

Cat Mate C200: the simpler choice for a later meal

If your cat needs breakfast before you get up, or a meal while you’re out, the C200 keeps the decision simple. Each of its two compartments has a lid and its own countdown timer. You set how long until opening, rather than building an app schedule.

Its timers can delay opening by up to 48 hours, but they need resetting for the next use. That distinction matters if you expect a clock-based programme that repeats each day. The included ice pack also needs freezing before use.

Both compartments can start closed and open later. If you serve breakfast in a separate bowl, neither of the two timed portions is used up. For a 5am breakfast when you set the feeder at 10pm, the countdown is seven hours; use the dial-setting instructions and test the opening time while you’re home. That timing example is not a seven-hour food-storage guarantee.

Buy it if: one or two delayed servings cover your routine and you prefer straightforward controls. Choose the C500 instead if: you need more later servings from one loaded tray.

The Amazon link below is for the white model with plastic bowls. A stainless-steel version exists, but it is a different product configuration; don’t assume the base listing includes steel inserts. You’ll also need one AA battery.

PETLIBRO Polar: the upgrade for powered cooling

The Polar earns its place here because it changes how the food is cooled. Rather than relying on frozen packs, it actively cools its three food compartments while connected to mains power. If ice-pack preparation is your sticking point, this is the feature worth comparing prices for.

The link below selects the stainless-steel bowl version, with 200ml per compartment. The plastic version has different capacity, so check which option is selected at checkout.

PETLIBRO reports food temperatures of around 12°C in a 25°C room in its lab testing. That is cooler than the room, but it is not normal domestic-fridge temperature. Its advertised storage claims should not be treated as a guarantee for every food or every kitchen.

The other important limit is power: with three AA backup batteries, PETLIBRO says feeding can continue for up to 12 hours during an outage, but refrigeration and Wi-Fi stop. Its support guidance recommends a room temperature of 12–30°C, away from direct sun, heat and humidity. Those operating conditions do not guarantee that a particular food remains suitable for an entire shift.

You need a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection and the app for initial setup. Three compartments also mean three loaded portions: if your cat has three feeder meals a day, you refill daily. Cooling doesn’t turn it into an unlimited food supply.

Buy it if: you want active cooling, can leave it plugged in and are comfortable using an app. Choose a Cat Mate instead if: simplicity matters more, or you want a battery-operated feeder without mains dependence.

Three checks before you order

1. Count the meals you actually need

Write down the gaps you want to cover. One early breakfast points towards the C200. Several scheduled servings point towards the C500. A need for active cooling points towards the Polar. Buying more compartments only helps if your routine uses them.

2. Plan the cooling routine

For the Cat Mate models, make room in the freezer and follow the ice-pack instructions. For the Polar, check the socket, placement and room conditions. Avoid assuming a warm conservatory is equivalent to the manufacturer’s test environment. Follow the wet-food maker’s storage advice as well as the feeder instructions.

3. Make sure your cat will use it

Try the feeder while you’re home before relying on a timed meal. Check that your cat approaches it comfortably and that the meal opens as intended. If another cat steals food, timed dispensing alone won’t solve that: see our guide to microchip cat feeders for access control.

Wet-food feeder questions

Can an automatic feeder serve wet food overnight?

These models can schedule a later wet-food meal. Set it up using the manufacturer’s instructions and test the opening time before you rely on it for breakfast. Choose the cooling method around the food and room conditions; a timed lid alone does not keep food fresh.

How long will wet food stay fresh in a feeder?

There is no single safe duration that applies to every feeder, food and room. Cats Protection warns that ordinary wet food left out can spoil after a few hours. Ice packs and active cooling change the conditions, but you still need to follow both sets of instructions. Do not use a timer’s maximum delay as the storage limit.

Will these work for two cats?

They don’t identify the cat eating from them. Two cats may share access, but these feeders cannot reserve a portion for one particular cat. If separate diets or food theft are the issue, focus on access control rather than simply buying extra compartments.

Can I use a dry-food hopper for wet food?

Choose a feeder explicitly designed for wet food. The compartment-based models here are designed for that job; don’t put wet food into a kibble hopper unless that model’s manufacturer expressly supports it. Our broader automatic feeder guide covers other feeding needs.

Does a feeder replace someone checking on my cat?

No. A feeder helps with a meal time; it does not check drinking water, the litter tray, illness or a failed mechanism. Arrange suitable care when you’re away rather than treating the number of compartments as time you can leave your cat unattended.

Which one should you choose?

For several scheduled wet-food meals, the C500 is the strongest starting point in this shortlist. Its extra compartments address the scheduling problem without requiring an app. Choose the C200 when fewer delayed meals are enough. Spend more on the Polar when powered cooling is the feature you actually need, and its power and capacity limits fit your routine.

Sources and how we chose

We shortlisted feeders around three buying decisions: delayed meals, several scheduled servings and powered cooling. We checked the manufacturers’ instructions and support pages against the selected UK product listings.
